Any firearm activity inherently has risks and shooting steel targets is no
exception. All steel targets should be placed at the lowest and closest
spot possible in front of a tall berm. Steel targets should NEVER be relied
on to stop bullets or splatter, ALWAYS place the target close to a tall berm
to stop misses and bullets deflected by hits on the edge of the target.
EVERYONE IN THE VICINITY OF A STEEL TARGET SHOULD WEAR EAR AND EYE PROTECTION
AT ALL TIMES INCLUDING BYSTANDERS. DEPENDING ON THE FIREARM AND AMMUNITION,
SPLATTER CAN TRAVEL BACK TO THE FIRING LINE AND BEYOND, SOMETIMES MANY DOZENS
OF YARDS BEHIND THE FIRING LINE. KEEP ALL HUMANS AND ANIMALS AT LEAST 50Y AND
PREFERABLY 100Y BEHIND THE FIRING LINE AND EVERYONE SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR EYE
PROTECTION WHENEVER FIRING IS IN PROGRESS REGARDLESS OF LOCATION.
